HESCO Concertainers Helping to Build Defense Against Oil Spill
The BP oil spill disaster has proposed a major threat to the
beaches along the Gulf of Mexico. Experts are saying it is much worse than the
1989 Exxon Valdez disaster that ruined Prince William Sound in Alaska. However,
there are solutions available that can help build a defense against the oil
spill. Integrated Protection Systems (IPS), a leading supplier of for HESCO®
Concertainer® Units and Enviro-Armour Solutions, can install a protection system
that can assist with the oil clean up.
The Concertainer® units are developed and manufactured by
HESCO Bastion Ltd and are useful in force protection, erosion control and flood
protection. The U.S. military also utilizes them against secondary
fragmentation, which results in many lives being saved. The Concertainer® units
not only help with beach restoration, but they also help with flood control,
storm protection, beach and dune rebuilding and can be installed in as little
as 20 minutes. They are also helping with the oil spill clean up in the Gulf of
Mexico. Combined with Enviro-Armour Solutions, it makes a polypropylene fabric
that acts as a containment barrier. The Enviro-Armour will then solidify the oil as
it infiltrates the HESCO fabric. The oil then becomes solid and can be
recycled. This method has already been implemented along the shoreline in
Dauphin Island, AL with outstanding results.
IPS can transport, unload and install HESCO® Concertainer®
Units and Enviro-Armour Solutions using a wall of basket units that are equal to
1,500 sandbags with two men in about 20 minutes. If the same wall was built
using sandbags, it would take about 10 men and seven hours to do the same job.
We can install the units with our preferred installation company, Sterling
Building Specialist. With the oil from the spill fast approaching the
shorelines, having a quick, easy method of building protection is an asset that
will benefit not only the beaches, but those who depend upon them as an
economic resource.
- Some other benefits include:
- Cost effectiveness
- Can be applied to a wide range of projects
- Durable construction
- Very efficient and highly practical
- Also creates defense against flood control and
beach erosion
Now is the time to act. The oil spill is leaking at about
840,000 gallons a day and it may be months before the leak is capped. Some
experts say it may take many years for the beach cleanup to have a positive
effect. Have a defense mechanism in place with HESCO® Concertainer® Units and Enviro-Armour Solutions from Integrated Protection Systems. For more information,

Using HESCO® Concertainers® Units Saves Time and Money
[Posted On: August 19, 2010]
A lot of time and money has already been spent on cleaning up the mess left behind by the BP oil spill. Since April, thousands of gallons of oil have spewed out into the Gulf of Mexico, causing a terrible environmental disaster. However, there are some companies out there trying methods of cleaning up the oil without spending too much time and money, but some are falling short of that goal. Using might be one answer to the problem. These units are packaged flat and can be joined together to form a strong wall-like structure with integrity that will stand up to any hydrocarbon spill, such as the BP one. They are made with geotextiles and have a pyramid design that gives it a stable core. The units are not only used for beach cleanup, but have been effective against floods, hurricanes, beach erosion and more. You can fill them with sand, crushed rock, granular material and earth. Also, you can join as many units together as you need, which is especially good for beaches that stretch for miles.
The best thing of all about the HESCO® Concertainers® Units is that they can also save time and money as well as the beaches. It takes about 20 minutes to assemble the units. If someone were to try to put up 1,500 flood sandbags for the same purpose, it would take about seven hours. In addition, it takes less people to assemble the units than it does 1,500 sandbags. Two people can do the job while it may take about 10 to put together the sandbags. This will cut down on labor costs tremendously and it will save time as well. The oil has been coming onshore in several places along the Gulf and has caused businesses to lose money and wildlife to die. Stopping the problem is key to preserving the beaches, its wildlife and the businesses that depend upon them. HESCO® Concertainers® Units are an answer that property owners need in a time like this.
Another good thing about the HESCO® Concertainers® Units is that you can add agents to it that will transform the oil into a solid that can even float on water. Enviro Bond 403™ can change the oil from a liquid into a solid upon contact. This along with the HESCO® Concertainers® Units make a dynamic duo that will stop oil spills from ruining beaches and killing wildlife. Integrated Protection Systems (IPS) and Sterling Building Specialists are using the HESCO® Concertainers® Units in stopping the oil spill.
